Peptides and research compounds merchant accounts

Research-use-only compounds sit in a narrow lane. What ends the account is almost always marketing language that steps outside it.

Commonly assigned MCC

5122 · 5499

The category actually assigned is set by the acquirer at boarding and can differ from these.

The short version

Research compounds are sold lawfully for laboratory use. The category's problem is that buyer intent and marketing frequently drift toward human use, and once a page implies dosing, the account is selling an unapproved drug in the acquirer's reading.

Placement here depends almost entirely on how disciplined the site is. Merchants who hold the research-use line get boarded; merchants who blur it do not stay boarded.

What is actually being priced

What underwriting is looking at.

Claims drift

Dosing tables, before-and-after imagery or protocol language moves the product out of research use and out of the acquirer's policy.

Buyer verification

Some policies require evidence that buyers are institutional or credentialed rather than consumer.

Regulatory movement

Individual compounds have been reclassified at short notice, which can strand a catalogue mid-quarter.

What we put in place

  • Placement with acquirers holding a written research-compound policy
  • Pre-submission review of catalogue and marketing language
  • Multi-MID structures so one compound's reclassification is contained
  • Monitoring against card-brand and acquirer policy changes

What underwriting will ask you for

Assemble these before you apply anywhere. The list does not get shorter by waiting, and having it ready is the single biggest thing you control about how long this takes.

  • Full catalogue with CAS numbers where applicable
  • Certificates of analysis and supplier documentation
  • Live site including disclaimers and any buyer verification
  • Processing history and chargeback ratio
